The Colusa Home Visiting Program (CHVP) is focused on promoting positive parenting and child development by giving parents tools and knowledge to improve their parenting skills and relationships with their children. Decades of research on home visiting shows that home visits by a trained professional during pregnancy and in the first few years of life improves the lives of children and families.
CHVP applies the evidence-based Parents As Teachers (PAT) model. Parent educators conduct visits in the family’s home where teachable moments naturally arise. Visits can also take place virtually when preferred. Working one-on-one with a parent educator allows families to ask questions, discuss concerns, and gain valuable information. The goal of this program is to:
• Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve positive parenting practices
• Provide early detection of developmental delays and connection to servicses
• Improve parent, child and family health and well-being
• Prevent child abuse and neglect
• Increase children’s school readiness and success
• Improve family economic well-being
• Strengthen community capacity and connectedness.
