1. How do I open a case with the Department of Child Support Services?

The Department of Child Support Services can mail you an application for services or you can request an application for services in person. You may return your completed application to this office by mail or in person. You may also complete an application for services online by going to the State DCSS Website.

2. I haven't received my child support check. Has a payment been sent out?

You may access specific account information 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling (866) 901-3212 or by visiting our secure website. Child Support Website

3. Where do I mail my child support payments?

All payments must be mailed to California State Disbursement Unit (CASDU). Please include your Participant Number and your first, middle and last name on your check or money order. Credit card payments may be made online or by calling (866) 901-3212. Payment mailing address is as follows:

4. What is the cost of your services?

The Federal Government requires all state child support agencies impose an Annual Service Fee of $25.00 for cases meeting certain criteria. Please refer to your Child Support Handbook for additional information.

5. Who is eligible for services?

Any parent or guardian can apply for child support services. Parents or guardians receiving public assistance will automatically be referred to The Department of Child Support Services by the Health and Human Services Department.

6. Why is it important to establish paternity?

The court cannot order the noncustodial parent to pay child support until paternity is legally established. It may also be important in determining eligibility for receiving Social Security or Veterans' benefits.

7. Can you help me get custody or visitation with my children?

The Department of Child Support Services is unable to assist with establishing custody and visitation orders. The Family Law Facilitator is provided as a free service (in each California County) to provide legal information and assistance to people representing themselves in a Family Law matters.
