Colusa County Seed Library

The Colusa County Free Library, in partnership with the Colusa County Garden Club and Colusa County Arts Council, invites patrons to make seed requests from the recently installed Colusa County Seed Library.

The seed library, housed at the main branch of the Colusa County Free Library, is a free resource to encourage beginner gardeners to start veggie and herb gardens and to include California native plants in their flower beds. Through the seed library, community members can learn how to grow their own food, save seeds, and include native plants in gardening projects.

The goal of the Colusa County Seed Library is to increase community awareness of the environmental benefits of native plants, explore how to garden in a changing environment, and address food insecurity by providing free access to a repository of vegetable, herb, and native seeds.

To “check out” seeds: you can browse the catalog online, submit a seed request using the online form, and then a volunteer will package your seeds. Hard copies of the catalogue and request form are also available at all of the seven branch libraries. When your seeds are ready, a librarian will notify you that your seeds are ready for pickup at your preferred branch location! There is no requirement to return seeds checked out from the library.

The Colusa County Seed Library is funded in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency, through the Upstate California Creative Corps program.
