Boating Safety Unit

Responsibilities

The Colusa County Boating Safety Unit is responsible for promoting safe boating on the the county's waterways. This involves:

  • Conducting routine inspections of vessels for necessary equipmentboat
  • Conducting search, rescue, and recovery operations
  • Enforcing state laws and county ordinances to ensure the public's safety
  • Patrolling the county's waterways
  • Providing educational programs

Dive Team

The Boating Safety Unit dive team consists of six members providing rescue and recovery operations.

Water Activities

East Park (1)

Colusa County has two lakes and six other waterways, including the Sacramento River and East Park Reservoir. 

Recreational boating activities on these waterways include:

  • Canoeing
  • Cruising
  • Fishing
  • Floating
  • Hunting
  • Kayaking
  • Paddling
  • Using personal water crafts
  • Water skiing

California Boater Card

Beginning January 1, 2018, the mandatory boating safety education law goes into effect and will be phased in by age. If you operate a motorized vessel on California waterways, you will be required to pass an approved boating safety exam and carry a lifetime California Boater Card.
