(COLUSA, CA) June 3, 2025 – Today the Colusa County Board of Supervisors appointed Daniel “Colt” Esenwein to serve as the County Public Works Director beginning July 1.
“Colt Esenwein has a depth of experience and reputation for collaboration,” said Board Chair Daurice Smith. “He understands the needs of our local communities and has a desire to improve all Public Works operations. We are happy to welcome him to the County Team.”
A registered professional civil engineer, Esenwein brings nearly 25 years of public works experience to the County. Esenwein will work closely with the County Administrative Office and Board of Supervisors and oversee the operations of the County Department of Public Works, which in addition to road and bridge responsibilities, includes solid waste, airport management, floodplain administration and recreation management.
Esenwein has served as the Public Works Director for the City of Williams for the past four years. Prior to that position he served in several other counties in California in many roles including Deputy Director to Director. His career has included being responsible for managing water and wastewater design and operations, solid waste and recycling, flood control, storm water, recreation facilities, construction management and disaster recovery. Additionally, Esenwein served in the United States Navy from 1990 to 1994 and holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from Cal Poly.
